Type Locality and Naming

The type section is at Shanheila in Town Shetai of Urad Qianqi, Inner Mongolia. The Erhagong Fm was named by Lin Baoyu, Qiu Hongrong and Xu Chang cheng in 1984.

Synonym: (二哈公组)


Lithology and Thickness

The formation is dominated by medium-bedded dolomite and dolomitic limestone. In the type area, the Erhagong Fm is 324 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the Upper Cambrian-Lower Ordovician Shanheila Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the limestone of the Ulanhudag Fm.

Regional extent

The Erhagong Fm is exposed in Shanheila (324 m thick) and Baiyanhua Hill (86 m thick incompletely).

Fossils

This stratigraphic unit yields conodonts Scandodus handanensis, Ersimodus typus, Tasmanognathus sishuiensis, and is roughly equivalent to the graptolite Husterograptus teretiusculus zone to Climacograptus peltifer zone.
